Primary Guide
The Primary Guide shares teaching responsibilities with another guide to oversee all aspects of a mixed-age Montessori classroom of 3- to 6-year-olds. They must know how to create and maintain a classroom culture which values respect, safety, and engaged learning. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and maintaining the environment, preparing didactic materials which are appropriately challenging and meet the needs of the learners, adapting the curriculum to the local context as necessary, recording student progress and student observations using the school’s record keeping system, leading circle-time activities, and meeting with caregivers.
All faculty at Upstone will be responsible for developing professional goals toward the end of improving their practice, outlining the steps that they’re going to take in order to attain them, and describing how they are going to measure whether or not they have attained them.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and prepared yet can think on their feet and adapt to new situations; have the ability to notice, assess, and solve problems; have a good sense of when and when not to intervene for a child; have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with children and adults alike; have the ability to successfully navigate a cooperative team-teaching environment; able, or willing to learn, to use technology; able to contribute in a collaborative environment designed to meet the needs and interests of young children; and have a personal philosophy that aligns with that of Upstone.

Full-time position
Competitive salary commensurate with experience
Hours are 7:30 AM — 3:30 PM, Monday to Friday, with occasional nights and weekends required
Qualifications
AMI or AMS Primary Credential
Teaching experience in a Montessori classroom
Able to lift a 3- to 6-year-old child if necessary

Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and maintaining the environment, preparing didactic materials which are appropriately challenging and meet the needs of the learners, adapting the curriculum to the local context as necessary, recording student progress and student observations using the school’s record keeping system, leading circle-time activities, and meeting with caregivers. 100% of the guide’s interactions with students are carried out in Spanish.

Extended Day Guide - Summer
The Extended Day Guide - Summer shares teaching responsibilities to oversee all aspects of managing a mixed-age group of 3- to 6-year-olds. They must know how to create and maintain a culture which values respect, safety, and engagement. Main responsibilities include, but are not limited to, preparing and maintaining the environment, preparing materials which are appropriately challenging and meet the needs of the learners, devising materials, activities, and games for children to engage in—especially those suitable for summertime fun, and interfacing with caregivers.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and prepared yet can think on their feet and adapt to new situations; have the ability to notice, assess, and solve problems; have a good sense of when to intervene for a child; have strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport with children and adults alike; have the ability to successfully navigate a cooperative team-teaching environment; be able to contribute in a collaborative environment designed to meet the needs and interests of young children; and have a personal philosophy that aligns with that of Upstone.
